From wade-in to 18 feet

The depth starts at zero — you can walk in — and reaches 18 ft. That range is most of why the place works: waders, lap swimmers and divers all get their patch of the same three acres.

Lap swimming

There’s an eighth-mile marker, and at roughly 1,000 ft long the pool gives you real open-water distance without open water. I’ve done my morning laps here since 2009; the quiet window is 5–8 AM, before the lifeguards come on at 8 (best time to visit).

The diving board

Yes, there’s a diving board — a rarity worth the gate fee on its own for some visitors. Lifeguards are on duty from 8 AM; the guard schedule and the Thursday exception are in is it safe.

More water, no walls

When the laps are done, Lady Bird Lake is next door — the sunset bat kayak tour is around $50 for two guided hours ending under the Congress Avenue Bridge.
